Guitar Wiz Arrives on Day One of iOS 27 with Camera Chord Recognition, Tempo Detection, Siri, and a Liquid Glass Redesign
Guitar Wiz is available today as a day-one update for iOS 27. It adds new ways to identify chords, set a practice tempo, and use Guitar Wiz across Apple devices.
The update introduces camera-based chord recognition, automatic tempo detection, expanded Siri and Apple Intelligence support, new Extra Large widgets, and a refreshed interface built around Apple’s Liquid Glass design. It also includes updates for iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch.
Turn chord sheets into playable chords
The new camera chord-recognition feature identifies guitar chords from a lyric sheet, songbook, screen, or screenshot. Guitar Wiz then opens the matching chord in the app, where players can view the diagram, hear it, and save it to a collection.
The update also adds automatic tempo detection. Guitar Wiz can listen to music playing nearby, identify its BPM, and set the Metronome to the matching speed. This is useful for practicing with a recording, rehearsing an arrangement, or checking a tempo before a session.
Apple Intelligence can also better understand the current Guitar Wiz screen, including chords, chord progressions, and Song Maker documents, to offer relevant help and actions.
Expanded Siri support
The iOS 27 update significantly expands what players can do with Siri. They can ask Siri to open and play chords, find a chord in the Chord Library, add or remove favorites, and create or manage chord collections. Siri can also start or stop the Metronome, set a precise BPM, detect a song’s tempo, open the Tuner, and open or manage Song Maker documents.
For example, a player can simply say, “Play C major in Guitar Wiz.” Over time, Siri can learn the actions a player uses most and suggest useful shortcuts when they are relevant.
A new Liquid Glass look across Apple devices
Guitar Wiz has been refreshed for iOS 27 with Apple’s Liquid Glass design language. Controls, chord diagrams, and other interface elements have been updated throughout the app.
New Extra Large widgets put recently viewed chords, quick access to Guitar Wiz tools, and Chord Collections directly on the Home Screen. Layouts on iPad and Mac also adapt more naturally to larger displays, making better use of the available space for finding chords, building songs, tuning up, and keeping time.
The update extends Guitar Wiz’s Apple-device integration in other practical ways, too: players can search for chords directly from their device, open Guitar Wiz from links, follow ongoing activities in the Dynamic Island, and reach frequently used tools faster.
Guitar Wiz on Apple Watch
Guitar Wiz on Apple Watch includes the Tuner, Metronome, quick tool launching, complications, and Siri support. It gives players access to core tools without reaching for their phone.

Accessibility remains central to Guitar Wiz. The iOS 27 update continues support for VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, improved visibility for people who have difficulty distinguishing colors, and helpful haptic feedback. Numerous smaller refinements also make the app easier to discover and get started with.
